Project Media Console

Ok this is my first official post and I can honestly say I am EXTREMELY excited to post one of the first few furniture pieces that got me hooked on repurposing furniture. I found this lovely piece on Craigslist and they were practically giving away this solid wood dresser so of course I had to purchase it. The idea came when I was pregnant with my son. I knew I needed to get rid of our not-so-kid-friendly glass tv stand and find something more practical and safe that would allow for more storage.

This is what I had to work with....flimsy cheap bookshelves and a glass tv stand that was just asking for me to clean every 5 minutes when my child was old enough to run around the house putting their fingerprints all over it. I know this picture is a little fuzzy....I need to stop using the convenience of my cell phone camera and start using my nice big expensive camera!

And this is the Craigslist beauty I bought for $60.00

....and let the demolition begin

I decided to keep the original hardware and just spray them black using Rust-Oleum any surface black spray paint; however, I used satin and not gloss.

I only sanded the top of this dresser because of all the ornate details I didn't want to distress the details too much with a sander so I used a primer that also covers all surfaces with no sanding required!

Add a little black to the top and then finish it off with some satin polyurethane

Add a little yellow and a perfectly fitted piece of plywood to the top to make a shelf for all my gadgets. This yellow is really YELLOW in this picture but trust me its more subtle than the picture justifies. If memory serves me correctly I believe this color was called carmel; although, it doesn't look carmel to me either! hahaha Who comes up with these paint names?

The hubby hard at work to make this wall look AMAZING!! He would probably kill me if he knew I took his picture!

Finally....storage for all my blankies!!

Add the doors and some pictures.....PERFECT!!
And last but not least....a before and after closeup. I am so happy with the final product!
